Chateau Picque Caillou

Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France

Château Picque Caillou is located at the gates of the city of Bordeaux in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the historic cradle of the Bordeaux vineyard. It remains a special link to the past illustrating true old-school Bordeaux, stylish & delicious.

A close neighbour of the prestigious Haut-Brion and Pape Clément châteaux, this 26-hectare vineyard carries in its name an indication of its terroir, the pebbly soils that originated from sediments deposited by the nearby Garonne river over thousands of years.

In 2006, Paulin Calvet took over the daily running of the vineyard, breathing new life into the estate and giving it new impetus and in 2007 consultant/enologist Professor Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne joined the winemaking team. The wines have never looked better.

The soils are made up of well-draining gravel which, combined with the quick-warming air of the surrounding urban environment, brings about an early start to the vine-growing season.

The best exposed plots are planted with the Cabernet-Sauvignon variety, which can attain high levels of ripeness here.

You are always assured a warm welcome from Paulin and Isabelle and their wines are enjoyed and savoured by all. Picque-Caillou rouge (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot) is a perfect, reliable and delicious treat!
