First Foot Forward
First Foot Forward was launched in 2013 with a focus on making small batches of textural, thought provoking Yarra Valley wines with minimal intervention. Martin Seibert works with strong vineyards and experienced growers from across the Yarra Valley to make complex, balanced and most importantly interesting wines. The wines are fermented with wild yeasts before elevage in oak and terracotta eggs.
Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are at the core of First Foot Forward with an occasional dabble in other varieties when Marty gets too excited to say no to offerings of pristine fruit parcels.
Martin has traveled extensively and learnt the art of wine making working in Burgundy with Benjamin Leroux, Pegasus Bay in Canterbury N.Z. and Yarra Yering in the Yarra Valley, amongst others. The science of winemaking was learnt via the winemaking degree at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
