As James Halliday says, Jason Schwarz has “worked alongside some of the Barossa’s best-known grape growers and winemakers. A shed-load of experience has taught him that once you find great fruit, you look after it with a light touch.”
With purity of flavour and intensity at the fore, oak is used sparingly in Jason’s wines as he endeavours to allow the vineyard and the vintage to define their character. This makes for small-batch wines curated from an intuitive approach, creating unexpected releases that are truly interesting, creative, and sophisticated.
As a sixth generation Barossan, Jason Schwarz grew up surrounded by vines at his parent’s property in Bethany, just down the road from where he makes his wine today. After completing university, Jason headed overseas, working in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Northern Rhone, Stellenbosch, and the Napa Valley.
Jason’s vision today is distinct: “Our aim is simple; to create a portfolio of vibrant hand-crafted wines from Barossa Valley old vines. Our small-batch wines are not mainstream – they are new-age expressions of Barossa classics, designed to allow the fruit to speak for itself and tell a story through the glass.”
This is a story of the Barossa, its seasons, and its soils. And the results are outstanding.
2022 The Grower GSM
Deep ruby, this generously flavoured and detailed Grenache blend shows good focus of blackberry, black cherry and meaty spice aromas with a touch of tar. Hearty flavours follow with ample texture but a well integrated tannin frame. A Barossa Côtes du Rhône style that is well balanced and will deliver for some years to come.
2020 The Schiller Shiraz
Perfumed nose of dried violets, blackcurrants, peppercorns and cacao. Hazelnuts and sweet spices, too. Creamy and polished, with a full body and velvety tannins. Delicious chocolate and sweet spice on the lengthy finish…
2022 Meta Shiraz
Medium-deep crimson. Lovely ripe blackberry, dark chocolate aromas with chinotto notes. Voluminous and generous with ample dark berry, dark chocolate flavours, find velvety textures and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finished chocolately with mineral notes. Bittersweet wine with plush fruit and fresh acidity.
