Chateau Picque Caillou
Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France
Château Picque Caillou is located at the gates of the city of Bordeaux in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Bordeaux’s historic cradle. Isabelle and Paulin Calvet own and run the Chateau which has been in Isabelle’s family for generations.
A close neighbour of Haut-Brion and Pape Clément, this 21 hectare vineyard offers top class wines that display superb balance and delicacy, reflecting perfectly the traditions of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
In 2006, Paulin Calvet took over the daily running of the vineyard, breathing new life into the estate and giving it new impetus and in 2007 consultant/enologists Professor Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne joined the winemaking team. The wines have never looked better.
The soils are made up of well-draining gravel which, combined with the quick-warming air of the surrounding urban environment, brings about an early start to the vine-growing season
The best exposed plots are planted with the Cabernet-Sauvignon variety, which can attain high levels of ripeness here.
